Portis, Nalen to Pro Bowl

Broncos center Tom Nalen and running back Clinton Portis were selected by a combined vote of the league's players, coaches and fans for the annual Pro Bowl game to be played Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. This marks the 23rd consecutive season in which the Broncos have had at least one player selected to the Pro Bowl.

Two Denver Broncos players have been voted to the American Football Conference roster for the annual AFC-NFC Pro Bowl, the National Football League announced today. Center Tom Nalen and running back Clinton Portis were the Broncos chosen, and both were selected by a combined vote of the league's players, coaches and fans for the annual Pro Bowl game to be played Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. This marks the 23rd consecutive season in which the Broncos have had at least one player selected to the Pro Bowl.

While the complete AFC and NFC Pro Bowl squads will be announced today by the NFL, the starting lineups will not be announced until halftime of the AFC and NFC Wild Card Games, Sat., Jan. 3, 2004.

Nalen, in his 10th year from Boston College, makes his fifth Pro Bowl appearance, most ever by a Broncos offensive lineman. He has started all 14 games at center and anchored a Broncos offensive line that has paved the way for the NFL's No. 1 rushing offense and provided outstanding protection in the passing game. Nalen's previous Pro Bowls came in a four-year run from 1997-2000.

Portis, in his second year from Miami, makes his first Pro Bowl appearance, after winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors last year. He ranks No. 2 in the NFL in rushing with 1,591 yards and 14 touchdowns, and leads the league with a per-carry average of 5.5 yards. Portis has topped the 100-yard mark in 10 of his 13 starts, one shy of tying the team record, and is presently on a six-game streak of 100-yard performances. With 14 touchdowns - including a team-record five in Denver&rsquos 45-27 win over Kansas City, Dec., 7 - is tied for third in the NFL, and also ranks second in rushing touchdowns and third in points scored by non-kickers.

The Broncos currently have 11 players on their roster who have been to a total of 29 Pro Bowls, of which 28 have come as Broncos. The one exception is Shannon Sharpe's 2001 Pro Bowl season with the Baltimore Ravens. Below is a list of those players and the seasons in which they have been selected to the Pro Bowl:
