Englewood, Colo. - Cornerback Deltha O'Neal of the Denver Broncos is the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for October, the NFL announced today.
O'Neal had 21 tackles and an NFL-high six interceptions as the Broncos finished 2-2 in October. Against Kansas City on October 7, O'Neal became the 18th player in NFL history to intercept four passes in a game. Against New England on October 28, he also had two interceptions. As a punt returner, O'Neal had an 86-yard return touchdown against Seattle on October 14.
In his second season from California, this is O'Neal's first Player of the Month honor. He earned Player of the Week honors in week four of this season.
This is Denver's 14th Player of the Month honor and their fourth consecutive month earning an award, with Mike Anderson (December 2000), Rod Smith (November 2000) and Brian Griese (September 2001) earning the previous awards. Listed below are the Broncos previous winners:
