The Broncos are calling Darius Watts a steal. But it was clear even he didn't think he would be drafted as high as he was - No. 54 overall.

At his introductory press conference he sounded like a kid in a candy store - elated about where he now finds himself.

"A lot of people had me lower, but it was all right. I guess they thought I wasn't durable," he said.

Watts has the speed, and the stats, but his size is what caught critics' eyes. He is 6-2, but weighs only 188. But he is quick to note that he missed only two games in his career at Marshall.

"I want to be right around 193, 195. If I keep running while I'm lifting weights I think I'll be able to keep the speed up," he said.

As a senior Watts caught 74 passes for 968 yards, with touchdowns in 11 of his 12 games. His 272 career catches set a school record and only LSU's Troy Edwards had more scoring grabs in a Division 1-A career.

Though Watts has drawn some comparisons to Randy Moss, he has never met him. But he thinks Moss knows who he is.

"I broke one of the records of his, so I think he knows who I am now," he said.

"Anytime you're mentioned in the same sentence with randy moss and breaking one of his records, I think it's a great deal. He's a super freak just like they say. It's amazing." And Watts?

"I'm a little freak," he said, displaying a megawatt smile.

--Former North Texas defensive tackle Brandon Kennedy wasn't selected in this weekend's NFL Draft, leaving him open to sign with any team as an undrafted free agent. He signed with Denver, joining his older brother Kenoy, a starting safety for the Broncos. The younger Kennedy, the two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, had 57 tackles for losses in four seasons with the Mean Green.

"I think I'm a pretty good blocker. I'm not a take your head off guy, but I'll get in your way like a little gnat. I'll get in your way." -- Darius Watts, who knows he'll be asked to be a good blocker if he is to play wide receiver for the Broncos.
