The Denver Broncos on Tuesday placed running back Quentin Griffin on reserve/injured after he tore his right anterior cruciate ligament in Monday night's loss to Cincinnati. To fill the roster spot, the Broncos elevated running back Cecil Sapp off the practice squad, and signed running back Kris Briggs to the practice squad.

Griffin's knee injury occurred in Denver's 23-10 loss at Cincinnati during a kick off return on the opening kick of the second half. In six games this season, the second-year back out of Oklahoma rushed for 311 yards on 85 carries (3.7) and two touchdowns. In Week 1 against Kansas City, Griffin set a franchise record for most rushing yards in a season opener when he ran for 156 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns.

Sapp, 5-11, 229 pounds, was waived by the Broncos in the final cutdown of training camp and has spent the first seven weeks of the season on the team's practice squad. This is Sapp's second stint on Denver's active roster, as he was elevated for the final regular-season game of 2003 at Green Bay, where he rushed for 31 yards on 12 carries. He was inactive for the Broncos' AFC Wild Card Playoff Game at Indianapolis (1/4).

Briggs, 5-11, 242 pounds, spent the 2004 training camp with the Packers before the team waived him Aug. 29. A four-year letter winner at Southern Methodist University (1999-2002), Briggs was not drafted and spent the 2003 season out of football before signing with Green Bay on Jan. 9, 2004. At SMU, he rushed 480 times for 2,106 career yards, including a 96-yard score, with 17 touchdowns. A native of Carthage, Texas, Briggs attended Carthage High School, where he lettered in basketball and baseball in addition to football. Kristopher Lee Briggs was born April 17, 1981, in Compton, Calif.
