Vowing a sense of loyalty, commitment and responsibility, Mike Shanahan has decided to remain as head coach for the Denver Broncos.
At least as long as the Broncos want him here, a question which was quickly answered on Tuesday as he and Broncos owner Pat Bowlen met to discuss his future employment.
"My one question to Pat was, "Do you want me here?"
"Pat said he wants me here for the long haul, that's what I needed to know. I'm obviously disappointed at an 8-8 season, but it would be hard for me to leave after a season like that. It's just not my makeup, and this is our home."
"Mike is staying," Bowlen told reporters. "He's staying for a long time. I want Mike to be the coach of this franchise for as long as he wants to coach, and I think that he and I agree that's going to happen. He's got four years remaining on his contract. I expect him to coach a lot longer than four years."
