Head Coach Mike Shanahan
On the Broncos' first practice after their preseason opener against Houston
"I thought that we had a good practice, a good tempo. We've had probably one of our longer practices thus far, but I felt that our concentration level was good and we got something done."
On how many running backs will make Denver's final roster
"It all depends on how well they play; there are a lot of different positions. It's hard to tell you what direction that we are going with 53. It all depends on who the top 53 players are. Sometimes we will have a number of guys that is a little abnormal in one position, depending on the quality that we have."
On how cornerback Champ Bailey and defensive tackle Gerard Warren, who both did not play against Houston, practiced Monday
"Champ (Bailey) and Gerard (Warren) are full speed. We thought that they probably could have played in the preseason game against the Texans. Champ is feeling good. I asked him if he thought he could do some of our five-wide and he says he could, so that is usually a good sign that his hamstring is pretty good. Gerard went full speed through our whole practice today, so that was a plus."
On what impact wide receiver Todd Devoe's 92-yard touchdown reception against Houston will have on him making Denver's final roster
"It sure doesn't hurt. You try to make plays, and you get opportunities and try to take advantage of it and he did. It obviously helps him and his consistency through camp will obviously be the deciding factor."
On rookie running back Maurice Clarett's rehabilitation from a right groin injury
"According to him, he doesn't feel a whole lot better than when we left (for Houston), and he told Greek (Broncos Head Athletic Trainer Steve Antonopulos) that it is still quite sore, so that is a little discouraging. We thought he might improve over a three or four-day time frame with all the treatment and work he has had. It seems to be bothering him, so we will have to just wait and see."
