ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Tuesday placed cornerback Lenny Walls on the reserve/injured list with a right groin strain, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.
Denver also signed safety Hamza Abdullah to its active roster from Tampa Bay's practice squad.
Walls (6-4, 195 pounds) is a fourth-year player who appeared in seven games (3 starts) for the Broncos this season, totaling 16 tackles (all solo), six pass breakups and one forced fumble. He was inactive for Denver's most recent game against Philadelphia on Sunday.
Walls, who entered the NFL with the Broncos in 2002 as an undrafted free agent, has posted 105 tackles (92 solo), one interception (0 yds.) and 28 pass breakups in 43 career regular-season games (20 starts) played with Denver. He also has totaled three career forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Abdullah (6-2, 213 pounds) is a rookie who joins Denver from the practice squad of Tampa Bay, which selected him in the seventh round (231st overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft from Washington State University. The 22-year-old was waived by the Buccaneers in their final roster cutdown on Sept. 3 and was out of football until joining the team's practice squad on Oct. 20.
Abdullah played 39 career games (11 starts) during four seasons at Washington State, totaling 104 tackles (69 solo), one interception, one sack, nine pass breakups and four forced fumbles. In 2004, he was an 11-game starter at free safety and recorded a career-best 70 tackles (44 solo) with one sack for the Cougars.
Abdullah also contributed to a Washington State team that won a share of the Pacific-10 Conference title and played in the Rose Bowl during the 2002 season.
At Pomona High School in Pomona, Calif., Abdullah was an all-league selection as a senior after recording 115 tackles, three interceptions and nine forced fumbles that season. Hamza Abdullah was born Aug. 20, 1983, in Los Angeles.
