The Denver Broncos have signed former University of Arizona running back Mike Bell as a rookie free agent.

Bell (6-foot-0, 215 pounds) finished his collegiate career ranked fourth on Arizona’s all-time rushing chart, totaling 3,163 yards on 678 attempts (4.7 avg.) with 17 touchdowns in 46 games (34 starts). Bell, who registered 11 career 100-yard rushing games, became the first player in school history to lead the Wildcats in rushing for four consecutive seasons. The three-year starter also posted 56 career receptions for 465 yards (8.3 avg.) with one touchdown.

As a senior in 2005, Bell was named honorable mention All-Pacific-10 Conference after rushing for a career-best 952 yards on 200 carries (4.8 avg.) with five touchdowns. He was a second-team All-Pac-10 choice as a sophomore in 2003, posting 920 rushing yards and a career-best six rushing touchdowns.

At Tolleson High School in Tolleson, Ariz., Bell was a consensus All-American as a senior and also was the state’s player of the year as selected by The Arizona Republic and Phoenix Metro Football Magazine. He became the second player in state history to rush for 2,000 yards in consecutive seasons, and his career prep total of 4,692 rushing yards was the second-highest total in Arizona annals.

Michael Steven Bell, who majored in sociology at Arizona, was born April 23, 1983.
