On whether he is surprised with how quickly he was moved to No. 2 on the depth chart
"Yeah, I guess. I've been doing good out here, and I've picked it up pretty quick. I didn't come in with any expectations about when I would get second team or not, but now I just have to keep working and keep moving on. There is still a lot to learn. Jake (Plummer) is doing a great job out here, and I still have a lot to learn. We'll see how the preseason games go and take it one game at a time."
On how he found out that he would be on the second-team offense
"Yesterday before the team meeting, Coach (Head Coach Mike Shanahan) came and told me. We just talked, and he said that he was happy with what I was doing and he was moving me up to second team and get some game time in the preseason games. I was happy. I wasn't really surprised. Like I said, I think I've done some good things out here and I picked it up pretty quick. I'm just happy to be there now."
On whether it is an uncomfortable situation with him now being ahead of QB Bradlee Van Pelt
"It's competition out here, and coach is going to play the best guy. I mean, (running back) Mike Bell is a first-team running back now. No matter where you are drafted or how many years you have been in the league, he's (Shanahan) going to play the best guy and that's what it's all about."
On whether the Broncos' offense has come to him easier than he expected
"It's sort of complicated. They are doing some things to help me out, out there but it's going to take a little more time. I'm still thinking a lot out there and not just reacting, but I'm happy with where I'm at right now."
On whether he feels any different today with being the No. 2 quarterback
"No. Same practice. Got a few more reps, and that's about it."
On whether he is getting butterflies as his first preseason game at Detroit on Friday approaches
"A little bit. I mean, Jake (Plummer) is obviously going to play a limited amount and me, (quarterback) Bradlee (Van Pelt) and (quarterback) Preston (Parsons) are going to get in there a lot, so it's going to be my first NFL-type game and I'm excited for it. But yeah, there's going to be some butterflies on Friday."
On WR Todd Devoe
"Todd has been doing good. He hurt his shoulder a little bit last week, but he has bounced back. All of the receivers are working hard out there, and we're making them think a lot and do a lot of things out there. Todd is doing well."
