Battle of the Week/Player of the Week

Brandon Marshall is in a battle for the third wide receiver position with the Denver Broncos. Check out the latest update on the battles plus the Player of the Week.

BATTLE OF THE WEEK: --Rookie Mike Bell passed Cedric Cobbs for the No. 3 running back job and was them promoted to the first unit ahead of Tatum Bell and Ron Dayne. Bell has had an impressive camp. He runs hard and has shifty moves. The job will ultimately be determined in preseason games. OTHER BATTLE FRONTS: Darius Watts vs. Brandon Marshall vs. David Kircus for third wide receiver. Watts had a great offseason and started camp as the third receiver, but he has dropped some passes and opened the door for someone else to take the job. Marshall is an impressive rookie, with great size and good hands, but he is a rookie. Kircus has some experience and has made some nice plays in camp, but he has also had a few drops. A wild card is David Terrell, a former first-round pick by Chicago who started camp buried on the depth chart but could make a move with strong showings in preseason games.

--Cecil Sapp is holding off Kyle Johnson for the starting cornerback job.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: WR Javon Walker -- The Broncos couldn't be happier with the progress Walker has made. Walker, who is coming off a torn ACL, didn't practice in live drills until training camp, but so far he looks close to 100 percent. He has made some acrobatic catches, and maybe even better news for Denver, he has taken some short passes, made a hard cut and got downfield.

"I'm doing everything I can to stay healthy," Walker said. "From the weight room to the training room, I'm continuously doing it every day."
