On the rivalry between the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs
"It is hard to explain. I really can not explain it. I just know that when we play Kansas City, it is always a physical game. Just like how we went out there last year and had a chance to pull it off in the fourth quarter and they let one sneak away, but it is hard to explain."
On whether he would rather be playing against Chiefs RB Larry Johnson or Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson
"Well it depends on which day. I would say since we are not playing LaDainian (Tomlinson) then I would say that Larry Johnson would probably be the guy."
On Kansas City QB Damon Huard
"Well I just know that he is 5-1 as a starter, so he hasn't had a lot of opportunities but when he has played he has played well. You never know how a guy is going to take advantage of his opportunity. He has been in the NFL for a long time. He has been with a very healthy quarterback, and he is with a very good system and they feel very good about him. I have seen guys get their opportunity and become starters. We have got a bunch of guys in the same situation, not necessarily at the quarterback position, but at the running back position and other positions on our football team. I am just hoping that he doesn't get hot against us."
On if he sees any changes in the Chiefs' this season
"No, I really can't because they have the same offensive staff and offensive line coach, Mike Solari, who is the offensive coordinator. It looks like from a formation standpoint, and what they are doing with shifts and the running game, that they are basically the same. Defensively we have Gunther Cunningham being the defensive coordinator. Gunther has always been a very physical guy. He switches things up game by game but always plays very sound. So very similar to what they have done in the past on both sides of the ball."
On what he thought of the Kansas City – Cincinnati Game last weekend
"Well I think it was not only who they were playing but their conditions. It looked like on film that the rain was really coming down. It is really hard to generate much offense on either side of the football in those conditions."
On if DE Courtney Brown will play against Kansas City
"I don't think so. He hasn't made strides like we were hoping. I would just say that it is week-by-week now. I talked to him this morning and he feels like there hasn't been much improvement and he has tried to push it. He has been getting treatment every day, so we just have to keep our fingers crossed that sometime during the season he comes back and he is ready to go. Right now I would put him as doubtful. There is a chance, but right now he is sore so that is why we have him as doubtful. He had a chance to go last week and he wasn't able to go. He just doesn't feel like there is a lot of improvement. If he can improve here in the next couple of days then there is an outside chance. "
On Kansas City RB Larry Johnson
"He is a great running back, and any time a guy gets 1,750 yards and starts just half of the season, that is pretty impressive in itself. Having him at the Pro Bowl, I liked the way that he handled himself. He is a pro, he has a quite demeanor, you can see he is a hard worker, and I think the guy has a lot of character and I am happy for him for the way that he is playing. I just hope that he doesn't have a great game against us."
On what sets Chiefs RB Johnson apart from other NFL RBs
"The same thing. It's the reason why he has accomplished what he has accomplished. The way he handles himself, his character, and his God-given talents. He is a difference maker."
On the performance of Denver K/P Paul Ernster so far this season
"It is a continuing evaluation process in Paul (Ernster). It is very early in his career. He played good in preseason and had an average game against St. Louis. I just hope that he gets better and better."
On how much the Kansas City defense has improved its defense since last season
"Wel,l they are very physical. They have a few acquisitions of free agency in the draft and those guys are playing. You can see a big improvement over last year."
On how confident he is that QB Jake Plummer will bounce back against Kansas City
"I am confident. Jake has bounced back and it is always tough when you go through and you don't play one of your better games. You have to acknowledge the fact to look at what you did poorly and present it with the same situation and hopefully not make the same mistakes. You like people that are accountable and they understand that they didn't play one of their better games and then they go on."
