Schon: Sam Brandon - Torn ACL

News out of Dove Valley this afternoon revealed that the injury to Sam Brandon was worse than expected - torn ACL in his knee, which will sideline the fifth-year veteran the remainder of the 2006 season.

It's official - an MRI today revealed that backup safety Sam Brandon tore the ACL in his knee during yesterday's win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, and will sit out the remainder of the 2006 season.

Brandon injured his knee during the fourth quarter when he was accidentally kicked by teammate Demetrin Veal.

"You could see it happen right in front of you," Mike Shanahan told reporters. "It was just a freak injury and it's really a shame, because he's really been playing well."

Although the head coach would not elaborate on exactly who would replace Brandon in the lineup, it's expected to be second-year vet Curome Cox, who took over yesterday after Brandon left the field. In addition to Brandon, the following players suffered significant injuries during Sunday's 31-20 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ebenezer Ekuban: Strained thigh - will undergo an MRI examination later today
Ian Gold: Strained hamstring - will undergo an MRI examination later today
Patrick Chukwurah: Strained hamstring - will undergo an MRI examination later today
Darrent Williams: Separated shoulder - status uncertain - will know more mid-week
Rod Smith: Separated shoulder - status uncertain - will know more mid-week
John Lynch: Concussion - CT scan came up negative
Nick Ferguson: Concussion - CT scan came up negative
Al Wilson: "Mild" concussion; no examination
