Broncos trade Bell and Foster to Detroit

The Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions have come to terms on a trade that will send running back Tatum Bell and offensive tackle George Foster to the Motor City. Check out the full details...

Although the official Free Agency period does not begin until Friday, March 2, Michael John Schon of Broncos Update.com has confirmed that the Denver Broncos and the Detroit Lions have agreed on a trade that will send running back Tatum Bell and offensive tackle George Foster to the Lions in exchange for two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Dre' Bly.

In addition to the players, the Broncos will also relinquish one of this year's draft choices, presumably a fifth round selection.

Bly, an eight-year veteran from North Carolna, is considered by many to be one of the best cornerbacks in the league, with career numbers to prove it. In eight seasons he has intercepted 31 passes, scored eight touchdowns (five on interception returns, two on fumble returns and one punt return) and forced 17 fumbles. Last season with the Lions Bly tied for the team lead with three interceptions and led Detroit with 18 passes defended and four forced fumbles.

Bly, who will take over the slot left vacant when Darrent Williams was killed in a drive-by shooting, will join forces with fellow Pro Bowler Champ Bailey in the secondary, giving Denver its strongest defensive backfield of the Mike Shanahan era.

Stay tuned to Broncos Update for futher information as the story develops. An official announcement will be made on Friday.
