The message the players have gotten from the many moves is that last season was unacceptable, and there won't be any excuses this time around.
"You can't say they haven't gone out there and got us the tools," safety John Lynch said. "Now we have to go do it."
"We needed a little bit of help at running back, we got that," defensive end Kenard Lang said. "We needed a little bit of help at tight end, we got that. We needed a little bit of help at defensive line, we got that. Cornerback, we got that too."
Training camp should be interesting with the many new players filling new roles, and competition for roster spots and a few starting spots.
One challenge the Broncos face is not getting too excited about the off-season additions before playing any games.
"We kind of got a good squad but we can't look at it and say 'We're going to be great,'" Lang said.
--Tight end Daniel Graham was one of Denver's key off-season additions. He came from New England, where he celebrated some Super Bowl wins, and was impressed with Denver's commitment to winning.
"It lets us know the organization is willing to make moves," Graham said. "We have pretty good depth at every position."
--After Broncos coach Mike Shanahan told the players they had the day off instead of practicing on the last day of a June minicamp, the players were thrilled. It was also a sign that the coaching staff was pleased with their progress this off-season.
"We've been looking good so that's an important thing," Henry said.
--Among the players who didn't participate in the June minicamp were receivers Rod Smith and Brandon Stokley. The team hopes to have both back before training camp. Smith is recovering from hip surgery and Stokley is rehabbing a torn Achilles' tendon. They will battle to be the Broncos' third receiver if Brandon Marshall starts, as expected.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "We might look good on paper, but it's a matter of doing it every Sunday." -- Broncos defensive end Kenard Lang.
