Schon: Broncos Camp Report - Day 11

The Broncos begin to fine tune the offense as they prepare to face the San Francisco 49ers in Monday night's preseason opener.

Stay in touch with all the latest happenings from Denver Broncos Training Camp 2007 as Syndicated Columnist Michael John Schon gives us the lowdown on who's hot - who's not and where the team is headed as they gear up for the regular season.

DAY ELEVEN
With only three days of camp remaining Mike Shanahan backed it down a bit - giving some of the walking wounded time to heal. Several starters including Champ Bailey and Dre' Bly took the day off. John Lynch and Nate Jackson both missed today's session to attend the funeral of former coach Bill Walsh.

"We're still banged up a little bit right now," Shanahan said. "But even when we don't have pads on, we still try to practice at gameday speed, and these guys do a great job. Hopefully their bodies can heal a little bit and we'll get some of the guys back on the field with shoulder pads on."

Ben Hamilton (concussion) and Matt Lepsis (groin) have been ruled out against San Francisco for precautionary reasons, but both are expected to be ready for the season opener.

Although Tony Scheffler saw more time working in seven-on-seven drills he's still a ways away from a permanent return according to Shanahan.

"Well the MRI was (negative), so we know there's no chance for any structural damage and now he's just got to get back in football shape and trust it. I think we're going to play him a little bit each day and he should be ready to go next week, at least practice, when we go against the Cowboys."

Main focus of the morning practice put the offense deep in their own territory - working on short yardage situations for a first down - no-huddle scenarios and special teams punt coverage.

Play of the day honors go to Domenik Hixon who hauled down a beautiful 70+ yard toss from Jay Cutler for a score.
