Battle and Player of the Week - Week 4

Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry (in photo) made strides in camp before being injured against Dallas.

BATTLE OF THE WEEK: Amon Gordon vs. Jimmy Kennedy for starting DT -- Gordon took over in the starting lineup when Gerard Warren was being shopped for a trade. That was a bit surprising because Kennedy had played pretty well in camp. Kennedy is a former first-round pick, and as he continues to learn the defensive scheme, he could move into the starting lineup full time. The situation will be complicated further if Warren rejoins the team after being shopped for a trade.

OTHER BATTLE FRONTS: Nate Webster started at strong-side linebacker in Denver's second preseason game, after D.D. Lewis started the first. The Broncos are still searching for someone to take control of the position. Webster had a good game against Dallas with a couple of big hits and a forced fumble.

RB Mike Bell was ahead of Cecil Sapp in the rotation in Denver's second preseason game, and he came in after Travis Henry. But Bell suffered a strained hip injury and could miss some practice time.

WR Brian Clark moved ahead of Domenik Hixon on the depth chart before Denver's preseason game at Dallas. Clark had a good game, with four catches for 117 yards. Brandon Stokley has been penciled in as the third receiver but he has a quadriceps injury and has missed both preseason games.

OL Adam Meadows appeared to have overtaken Erik Pears for the starting right tackle spot, working ahead of him during a practice in Dallas. But Meadows will miss a few weeks with a calf injury, which should give the job back to Pears.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: RB Travis Henry -- He looked great in his preseason debut. He ran hard and broke tackles, and also showed off some good moves against the 49ers. He had 27 yards on five carries, including a one-yard touchdown. Henry suffered a knee injury against Dallas in Denver's second preseason game, but he shouldn't miss much time.
