The Biggest Obstacle

Hoping to avoid another prime-time disaster, the Denver Broncos alter their practice schedule to try and adjust to playing past sundown.

DENVER, Colo. - Looming larger than Peyton Manning, larger than an Indianapolis defense that's ranked among the league's best and larger than the loss of a starting quarterback, the biggest obstacle that the Denver Broncos will face this Sunday evening may be time.

Time of day that is.

To date, the Broncos have failed to win a game this season that began past sundown.

Starting with an embarrassing 34-23 loss against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football, followed by a 24-22 defeat to the Miami Dolphins on a Sunday evening contest and finally another Monday night meltdown as Oakland handed out a 34-10 pounding.

Three up –three down, outscored a total of 92-55 in games that were played under the lights.

That fact alone was enough to prompt head coach Mike Shanahan to break tradition and schedule this Friday's practice to be held under the lights at Invesco Field.

"When you do look back, you always look at different things that you can do to help your football team win," Shanahan told reporters. "Sometimes you do some things when things aren't going right to change the mindset."

The mastermind, looking to change the mindset.

Here's to hoping it works.
