Moss to linebacker?

Jarvis Moss has a build that makes him look more like an outside linebacker than a defensive end, and the Denver Broncos might see if he can be effective at the outside linebacker spot.

Moss, a 2007 first-round pick, could get some time at outside linebacker when the Broncos use a 3-4 alignment. Denver has been using a 3-4 in recent weeks as a changeup to their normal defense.

"He's in the 240 (pound) range and he still has the speed, so you may see him some as a defensive end and some as an outside linebacker," coach Mike Shanahan said. "We have the ability to do some things with Jarvis that we haven't done in the past."

Moss has been inactive for three of Denver's five games this season. He was coming off a fractured fibula he suffered in practice during last season and hasn't gotten a sack yet this year.

The Broncos also deactivated defensive end Tim Crowder, a 2007 second-round pick, last week. He had a promising rookie year but hasn't made much noise this season.

"I think he is growing," Shanahan said. "He is a guy who works extremely hard. Right now we have some competition."
