Brandon Marshall Prepares for the Big Stage

With sights set on the Pro Bowl, Brandon Marshall prepares for the New York Jets and a possible playoff berth for the Denver Broncos.

On having an up and down season
"It seems like we play better when we have our backs against the wall. The teams that we should beat, the teams that we should dominate, we don't. Teams that we supposedly don't have a chance against, we play well. This is exciting. The Jets are a great team and they are peaking when they are supposed to be. They are on a five-game winning streak and it is going to be a tough game."

On the Jets defense
"They are third in rush defense and 26th in pass defense but if you look at some of the things they do in the passing game, you have to be on point with technique and scheme. They play a lot of 2-Man Trail and they don't allow you to catch the deep ball."

On pressure from teammates to perform
"I think with the group of guys we have, there is a lot of peer pressure. It is not just me, (TE) Daniel Graham or (QB) Jay Cutler, I think it is everybody. We put a lot of peer pressure on each other and I think if we continue to do that we will grow to be a strong unit."

On moving on after a turnover
"It is key to have a short memory and that is something we try to work on week in and week out."

On getting into the end zone
"It is a goal of mine. If we are winning, I am fine with it but getting in the end zone is the best feeling in the world. I haven't been in the end zone for a while and I would love to get back there. I will probably spend a couple more seconds in the end zone the next time I get there."

On why it has been a while since he has been in the end zone
"We have been going other places. We have great tight ends and other receivers such as Eddie Royal and Brandon Stokley. We also have some running backs that can get in there. We mix it up pretty good so when my opportunity is there I have to take advantage of it."

On being on the big stage this weekend for a possible trip to the Pro Bowl
"I think each week is a big stage but this is a nationally-televised game. I just want to give the fans something to enjoy this weekend because of last week's lost at home. Just getting back to winning ball games would be good for us this weekend."

On if he is paying attention to the online Pro Bowl ballot results
"I have, I am not going to lie. I have never been to a Pro Bowl and that is exciting as a player to get the opportunity to go over to Hawaii. It is definitely an individual goal. It is not number one on my list, playoffs is number one but I do pay attention."

On if he has teammates he thinks should make it to the Pro Bowl
"I believe the things that (QB) Jay (Cutler) is doing should get him over there. He probably should pack his bags now. (LT) Ryan Clady has only given up a half of a sack and he is just a rookie. It is not like we help him out a lot. We don't go over and chip, we don't double team. We basically throw him out on the island and tell him to get the job done and he has all year. If you look at (TE) Daniel Graham, he is definitely a Pro Bowl tight end but if you look at his numbers, it seems kind of impossible. He is probably the best blocking tight end in the business and he has been scoring touchdowns for us down the stretch."

On if he is going to pick it up the next few weeks to secure a spot at the Pro Bowl
"I just want to pick it up statistically to give our team an opportunity to get into the post season. Like I said, my number one goal is to get into the playoffs and my individual goals are second to that. I always want to do well and put up good numbers. I have kind of been playing just okay and I think it is time for me to get back to playing great and dominating. I need to force my will onto defensive backs."

On if he puts it on himself to make plays
"I sat down with (former Dallas Cowboys WR) Michael Irvin after the game for dinner and he put a lot of things into perspective for me. ‘It doesn't matter if they are rolling over coverage or double teaming you, impose your will at all times.' Sometimes I find myself on the backside of plays and if I see a double team taking it easy. I need to give (WR) Coach (Jedd) Fisch and (QB) Jay (Cutler) the confidence in me, even when I have two or three guys on me, that I can get the job done. That is one of the reasons Michael Irvin is in the Hall of Fame and the reason (former WR) Cris Carter is going to be in the Hall of Fame. (Former WR) Jerry Rice imposed his will on people. That is something I want to do. I want to get to playing great ball."

More on his conversation with Michael Irvin
"It was right after the Oakland (on Nov. 23) game. I think we all know what type of guy he is and the things he has been through. He is definitely smart and he is wise. All I did was shut my mouth and listen a lot. He put a lot of things in perspective for me. He told me that he had been looking for me for a long time. Running into him was a blessing in disguise because I learned a lot just talking to him. He was a guy that I watched a lot growing up. He is one of the greatest receivers to play the game. He is a Hall of Fame guy. I never really sat there and tuned into a Hall of Fame speech until he spoke. I didn't cry but it was definitely touching."

On the advice Michael Irvin gave him
"He told me to surround myself with good people, to do the right things and continue to do what I am doing. I feel good with the direction I am heading as a person and I am thankful. It is Thanksgiving and I have a lot to be thankful for including the season, the organization, the NFL giving me another chance and the fans giving me another chance. When you look at the Pro Bowl voting, that is what our community does. If you show that you are doing the right things and that you are capable of doing the right things in the community then they are going to support you. Two-hundred and eighty-five thousand votes is definitely our community and others supporting me. I have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving."
