Player of the Week Report

Check out the Player of the Week, the Battle of the week and the Rookie of the Week for week four of the Denver Broncos Training Camp.

BATTLE OF THE WEEK: Running backs Correll Buckhalter vs. LaMont Jordan. Rookie Knowshon Moreno, who missed Denver's second preseason game with a knee injury, looms over this battle because he'll be a factor when he comes back. Buckhalter and Jordan have had a chance to open up a lead over Moreno but haven't been spectacular in either preseason game. Buckhalter started his second consecutive preseason game and had 15 yards on four carries and had one catch. Jordan had nine yards on four carries, and also added a pair of catches. Buckhalter can attack the perimeter, especially as a receiver out of the backfield, and Jordan supplies power, so both could end up bringing different things to the offense, although Moreno will likely slide into a big role when he returns.

OTHER BATTLE FRONTS: Alphonso Smith took advantage of Jack Williams' absence because of an injury and passed Williams for the team's nickel cornerback job. Smith has good ball skills and was always the favorite to win the job. ... Chad Jackson continues to lead a small pack of receivers that are fighting for one or two roster spots. ... Rookie LB Lee Robinson has played pretty well in camp, and has been getting some time with the second-team defense at inside linebacker. ... Brett Kern outperformed Britton Colquitt in the second preseason game as the two fight for the punting job.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: TE Tony Scheffler - Scheffler has had a healthy camp and has made some nice plays in practice. He made a fantastic one-handed grab in the back of the end zone to finish practice last week. The Broncos will use the gifted tight end in their passing game, using his size and speed combination to create matchup problems.

ROOKIE REPORT: LB Robert Ayers is still working with the second team. The Broncos put him at right outside linebacker to compete with Elvis Dumervil, and Dumervil is playing well. ... S Darcel McBath started as Brian Dawkins continues to recover from a hand injury. ... TE Richard Quinn should see some time this season in jumbo packages. ... Undrafted LB Lee Robinson has made a good impression and could make the final roster. ... WR Kenny McKinley continues to work at punt and kickoff returner behind cornerback and fellow rookie Alphonso Smith. ... QB Tom Brandstater got his first action in the preseason and had a rough night, completing 2 of 4 passes for only one yard. He was sacked four times.

RB Knowshon Moreno has a sprained knee. He could return in a week or so.

S Brian Dawkins is back at practice, but participating with a club cast on his right hand.

WR Brandon Lloyd missed most of last week with an undisclosed injury, which won't help his chances of making the team.
