I bought a used car off a private party for Mrs Harpster last week. The woman selling it was a little ditsy. Smart enough to have a "Dr." title before her name but street savvy... maybe not so much. She was kind enough to give me the service records and as I looked them over I find $460.00 for a brake job. $640.00 for state inspection and tune up. But what really aroused my curiosity was: "BOTH FRONT PANCAKE" $248.00 (parts $48ea, labor $76ea).
Now while I'm extremely glad that both front pancake are in good working order, I have to admit that I've never heard of "front pancake" on a car. There must be two. And logically there must also be rear pancake. Would a repair shop be so blatant as to put a made up part on the receipt for a bilked customer? Maybe it really was a problem because it was quoted but declined on a bill for an oil change and then the work was done two months later. BTW - this is a national chain muffler and brake place.
Anyway, I hate thieves and think I'm going to check into this a little more. And now I'm hungry for pancake and bacons too.
What does Poll(l)and think?
