He is like the slow and steady guy.
Admire how he plays controlled the way he does, but he doesn't have that burst or anything that jumps out at you.
Very good vision, he is an excellent facilator, has the ability to score a little but he isn't explosive.
Folks want to say Kidd but he isn't near the player Kidd was even then, to break down a defense, he struggled against fox, who is an NBA caliber pg with NBA speed
Going to be a solid player. But I think these stupid expectations - is he mentally strong enough to dig himself out of the position his father is putting him in once he hits the floor the as an NBA rookie?
I don't think he is

From a pure player perspective, taking the idiocy of the brand and his father out of the conversation?
Bigger PG, decent vision, will struggle with the speed of the nba, odd shot, but has decent college range. Reminds me of Andre Miller, which is not a backhanded compliment, just a fair a one. I think he can be a good player, but his old man is writing checks with his mouth his kid can't cash.
Not a transcending talent, but a good one
Andre Miller. Good call.
Yeah nice comp, as far as playing style goes
I think ball is a little more explosive athlete
The Manziel comparison does hold up in one sense. Hype.
By blowing as much smoke as he has, LaVar has put a giant target on this kids back. NBA players and teams are going to gun for Lonzo, and provide embarrassing ankle breaking, slam dunk SC highlight proof that his dad needs to keep his trap closed.
Kids going to have a tough go of it, and a lot of the heat he's going to take will be because of dad.
And lots of dudes have hype
If they aren't undersized drunks they usually do ok
JFF and Lonzo have had about as much hype as is humanly possible, name one in recent years that's come close. It's a huge amount of extra stress on a twenty year old kid, to have guys trying extra hard to smoke you on the court / field to prove something.
JFF was hyped in his own mind. How many actual Football peopled hyped him up? Not many because again... he was an undersized guy that not many people thought would translate to the NFL. Andrew Luck? That's NFL hype.
Ball is the second best, or possibly the best, player in this Draft. He's a prototype size for a passing PG. He's a legit potential NBA star. Manziel never was except in his own mind and some delusional OBR posters.
If you want to compare Lonzo Ball to Todd Marionvich? It's at least closer as Marinovich was bred to play Football. He was the 6'4' prototype... but Marinovich had personal issues in College. Ball doesn't.
I still think the comparison isn't apples to apples as Ball has no off the court problems. He has a crazy Dad. That's it.
It changes nothing of what I said. If Johnny Football was 6'3' instead of 5'11 and he wasn't a drunk? He'd be our starting QB
Just like Ball will be someone's starting PG, for a very long time, because he has no issues, including his size, except for his Dad.
