Browns Trail Jags At Half

Despite McCoy-to-Hillis TD pass, Browns trail in Jacksonville 10-7

The Browns had a big 92-yard drive that took just under ten minutes, but a missed field goal opportunity, and trailed the Jaguars 10-7 at the half. Jacksonville scored a touchdown with 30 seconds to play in the half to take the lead as David Garrard hit Mike Thomas on a five-yard slant.

The Jaguars took a 3-0 lead as Josh Scobee hit a 46-yard field goal with 8:08 to play in the first quarter. It was the Jaguars' opening drive after the Browns punted on their first possession. A steady diet of Maurice Jones-Drew moved the Jaguars from their 38 to the Browns' 29. A sack by Kenyon Coleman thwarted the drive and forced the field goal. Jones-Drew had carries for 19 yards on the drive and caught a pass, as well.

The Browns took a 7-3 lead with 13:11 to play in the first half as Colt McCoy scrambled and dumped a short pass to Peyton Hillis, who ran 11 yards for the score. The Browns drove 92 yards on 16 plays, taking 9:57 off the clock. Hillis touched the ball nine times on the drive and the Browns converted all four of their third down conversions. They also overcame a second-and-21, where McCoy scrambled for 10 yards before throwing a 14-yard pass to Mohamed Massaquoi on third-and-11.

McCoy threw a nine-yard pass to Evan Moore on the next play to the 11. McCoy found Hillis after escaping two tackles for the score on the next play.

After stopping the Jaguars, the Browns took over and drove to the Jaguar's 30 after a 47-yard pass play to Hillis. However, an offensive pass interference penalty on Brian Robiskie forced Phil Dawson to attempt a 51-yard field goal and he was wide right.

On their last possession of the half the Jaguars went 68 yards on 13 plays to take a 10-7 lead with 30 seconds to play as David Garrard hit Mike Thomas on a five-yard slant for the score. Garrard hit Mercedes Lewis for 17 yards to the Browns' 16 for the longest play of the drive.
