Need Good News? Clausen May Start Sunday
Don Delco on November 23rd, 2010 AT 12:59 PM
The Browns need a win Sunday to quell the frustration following consecutive late-game losses to the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars.
The remedy? The Carolina Panthers, at 1-9, come to town. Even better, the Sports Xchange is reporting rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen may get the start if he is cleared to practice.
Clausen missed last Sunday’s game with a concussion. The Notre Dame rookie has become the team’s starter after starter Matt Moore was placed on injured reserve Nov. 9 with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder.
Clausen has been awful. In seven games he is 67-for-138 passing for 692 yards with four interception and one touchdown. As a team, Carolina has scored 117 points (11.7 per game), which ranks dead last in the league. They have been outscored by 135 points this season.
See, good news. At least you’re not a Carolina Panthers fan.
I’ve witnessed two random acts of kindness from Browns fans this AM. That, not bogus stories about “tackles”, are the Browns fans I know.
@saveallunicorns I don’t think he’s at immediate risk, despite a lot of media pandering to disappointed fans the last couple of days.

These are links from the OBR Newswire for November 23rd from 07:28 to 07:31:
- News-Herald – It’s a fall tradition – Eric Mangini has a genuine quarterback controversy on his hands this time, and he has decided to wait until Wednesday to tangle with it.
- Morning Journal – Fujita’s absence felt by defense on 75-yard scamper – Had Scott Fujita been playing in Jacksonville, perhaps Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew would have been stopped for a short gain instead of turning a screen pass into a 75-yard play with two minutes to play.
- Akron Beacon Journal – Lucky in a bad way – The odds of an NFL team losing with a plus-five turnover differential are higher than the odds of someone being struck by lightning, but they're still pretty darn low.
- Canton Repository – Browns’ Fujita hurting, but hopeful for team – It was a rough Sunday for Browns captain Scott Fujita, who was hopelessly out of his element.
- Canton Repository – If McCoy can’t play, Delhomme might start for Browns – Late in August, Browns quarterback Jake Delhomme said he was having a ton of fun, and it sounded like he meant it.
- The Associated Press – McCoy dealing with sprained ankle, unsure about Sunday – Colt McCoy has a sprained ankle. At least the Browns are consistent in one category.
