Same Old Stories

You would think that with a new head coach in town and the draft lurking on the horizon, there would plenty to talk about in Cleveland.

Of course, you would be wrong in thinking this.

Evidently, in places far removed from the OBR – whose forums always crank out some great talk regarding the future direction of the Browns – two familiar topics have resurfaced in the past week.

Or, did you know that Colt McCoy is short and Peyton Hillis is white?

Shocking, I know.

Canton Rep – Browns Hoping McCoy Can Measure Up To His Peers

Aside from Brees, the other Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks in the last 10 years have been tall. Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer — yes, Trent Dilfer — ranged from 6-4 to 6-6.

McCoy has heard all of this a million times.

"I'd like to say I was 6-4," he said at last year's Combine, "but this is what God gave me."

Cleveland Scene – Peyton Hillis Talks About Being White

"You know they'll say ‘You white boy you ain't gonna run on us today. This is ridiculous why are you giving offensive lineman the ball?' You know all kinds of stuff like that you hear on the field, but I use that to my advantage. I kind of soaked it in, ate it up a little bit because I enjoyed it."

As for McCoy's height, let's just say I'll take his smarts and potential over Derek Anderson's intangibles.

And regarding Hillis, it looks like the national media – namely Dan Patrick's syndicated radio show – has finally realized something we all previously knew.

But of course, for the sight-impaired and possibly also for the illiterate – both of these stories could be considered breaking news.

For the record, the most discussed topics in the OBR Tap Room Forum over the past couple days have been the following:

1. Pat Shurmur

2. Draft and Scouting

3. Draft and Scouting

4. Pat Shurmur

5. Draft and Scouting

Thank goodness.
