Antwoine Burns Scouting Report

Here is Tony Pauline's scouting report on Antwoine Burns, a University of Minnesota wide receiver who we believe has signed a rookie free agent contract with the Browns.

NameAntoine Burns  SchoolMinnesota  Year:   4Sr

Ht:  6-0  Wt:  193  40:  4.61  Pos:  WR

Bio: Junior college transfer who led Minnesota in receiving as a senior totaling 44 receptions for 526 yards and 4 scores.  Played sparingly with the first team as a junior recording 30/470/3.

Positives: Well built possession receiver reliable in the short field.  Extends his hands, looks the pass in and catches the ball away from his frame.  Gets up vertically and contorts to make the difficult reception in mid air.  Stays low exiting his routes, works his way back to the ball and helps out the quarterback.  Keeps the play in bounds and picks up positive yardage running after the catch.

Negatives:  Lacks the deep speed or second gear and has difficulty catching the pass running full tilt.  Route running skills are less than adequate.

Analysis:  Came into the season with high hopes but had only marginal productivity and did not prove he could be a number one wide out.  Size/speed numbers are a concern and a long shot to make it as a team's fifth receiver.
