C. J. Jones Scouting Report

The Browns have officially announced the signing of twenty-three rookie free agents, a number of whom were considered legitimate options in the draft. Here's Tony Pauline's take on one of the newest Browns: wide receiver C.J. Jones from Iowa.

NameClinton Jones  SchoolIowa     Year:  4Sr

Ht:  5-11  Wt:  180  40:  4.55  Pos:  WR

Bio: Moved into the starting lineup as a senior and totaled 38 receptions, 468 receiving yards and 9 scores, also averaging 26.6 yards on 19 kick returns, adding another touchdown.  Junior totals were 34/434/1 as a receiver, averaging 19.8 yards on 12 kick returns.  All-America choice at Garden City Community College before transferring to Iowa in 2001.

Positives: Agile, fluid receiver who makes the difficult reception in a crowd.  Comes back to the ball, extends or adjusts to the errant throw.  Runs well laterally, looks the pass into his hands and makes the tough grab.

Negatives:  Not a burner or a receiver that gets deep separation.  Cannot pluck the ball from the air.

Analysis:  Displays flashes of skill and could catch on as a team's fifth receiver.
