Browns' 2012 Schedule Released

For the 13th time in the 14 seasons since the Browns returned in 1999, they will open the season at home.

The Browns will open their 2012 season on Sunday Sept. 9 at home against the Eagles at 1 pm. The schedule features one primetime game on the Thursday NFL Network game away on Thursday Sept. 27 against the Ravens. Game time is 8:20 pm. Commissioner Roger Goodell announced earlier this year that all 32 teams would be on at least one primetime game.

This will be the 13th time in the 14 seasons since the Browns returned in 1999 that they opened at home. The only year the Browns opened on the road was in 2010 when they lost to the Buccaneers. All eight of the Browns home games are scheduled to start at 1 pm.

The Browns will have the third-hardest schedule next season based on the records of the teams last year. It is also the toughest among teams that failed to make the playoffs in 2011. They will play against only four teams who had losing records in 2011 in the Chiefs, Redskins, Bills and Colts and eight teams that made the playoffs in 2011.

The Browns will face the NFC East this season with games on the road against the Super Bowl champion Giants and the Cowboys. They will host the Eagles and the Redskins.

They will play three AFC West teams with home games against the Chargers and Chiefs and on the road against the Raiders and Broncos.

The Browns will also play six of their games against AFC North opponents (Steelers, Ravens and Bengals) who combined for a record of 33-15 (.688), while each made the playoffs.

Other highlights of the schedule has the Browns expected to go up against the top two picks of this year's draft, presumably Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. They will also face former Browns coach Romeo Crennel with the Chiefs, along with Peyton Hillis and Brady Quinn. The Browns will travel to Denver to take on Peyton Manning and the Broncos.

"Although we have known our opponents and where we are going to play since the end of last season, there is always a certain amount of anticipation as to how everything will fall into place," Pat Shurmur said in the team release.
