Gordon suspended by team

Violation of team rules is the latest offense for wide reciever

Connor Shaw’s job on Sunday just got a little bit harder.

Already missing veteran Miles Austin, Shaw will now be without the services of WR Josh Gordon, who has been suspended one game for violation of team rules.

The nature of the violation was not spelled out in the team’s press release. WR Phil Bates will be elevated from the practice squad to fill Gordon’s roster spot.

Gordon, clearly, has had a poor history with both team and NFL rules after being drafted in the second round of the 2012 supplemental draft. Gordon was available in the supplemental draft due to issues he faced while in college.

Gordon has been suspended twice for alleged violations of the league’s substance abuse policy, the most recent suspension being a ten-game suspension in 2014 which was contested by the player and reduced from one year.

When he is actually on the field, Gordon can be a revolutionary player - setting an all-time standard for wide receivers with back-to-back 200-yard games in 2013 and leading the league with 1,646 yards despite the two-game suspension.
