In even the sappiest romance drama, there must be conflict of some sort. It could take the form of an antagonistic family, a virulent disease, a fondness for Buffalo, or a romantic rival (see photo).

In the case of the unrequited love between WR/KR Ted Ginn Jr. and the city of Cleveland, we now have our villain: the Carolina Panthers.

Just as it seemed all the stars were aligning for Ginn to finish his career in Cleveland, the Charlotte Observer reports that the Panthers intend to reach out to Ginn, according to someone in the Panthers organization a league source.

Ginn isn’t the only return man on the market, notes the Observer, as fellow veteran returner Jacoby Jones was cut yesterday by the Ravens, creating some competition for Ginn in the desperate-for-a-return-game football marketplace.

The Observer notes that the Panthers have experience with both players, having had Ginn as their return man in 2013, and having pursued Jones as a free agent in 2012.

We’ll be keeping our eyes open here in Rumor Central for any other potential villains in the Ginn-Browns saga. Keep your tissues ready for a sappy ending, though.
