Fast Lane Tidbits

The ever-elusive quarterback position, pass rushers, a run stuffer and who can help at tight-end dominates the early discussion.

  • The Fast Lane has been told the Browns have Leonard Williams (USC), Danny Shelton (WASH) and Malcolm Brown (TEX) as the top-three rated interior defensive linemen on their board.

  • OLB Dante Fowler Jr (FLA) is the highest rated OLB prospect for the Browns.

  • The Browns have Shane Ray (MIZZ) and Alvin Dupree (KEN) listed as DE/OLB - pass rusher.

  • While the Browns certainly need and are looking at all the QB options, the odds on them signing veteran Josh McCown are not good at the present time. The Browns had a solid and informative set of discussions with the QB, but the Browns sense McCown could be headed to Buffalo due to the Bills complete lack of trust in those at the position.

  • Plenty of discussion has been bandied back and forth within the Browns personnel and.coaching staffs regarding potential FA QB targets. Sentiment withIn has swayed toward Mark Sanchez being the best FA QB. The Browns have not determined whether they will aggressively pursuit the veteran.

  • The Browns would be interested in Tampa Bay QB Mike Glennon, if he were available. Presently, Glennon has not been made available and the Buccaneers may retain him due to a cheap contract and lack of quality/depth at the position, whether they select a QB with the second overall selection in the draft.

  • Despite the interest and need at the position, theOBR continues to be told the Browns are much more likely to add a veteran QB and come out of the draft with Brett Hundley or Garrett Grayson.

Pernell McPhee -

The Baltimore Ravens are attempting to re-sign the pass rushing defensive lineman prior to March 10th, if unsuccessful, the Browns are an interested party to fit into their pursuit of a pass rusher. McPhee has been best served in a situation role, which wouldn’t be quite out of the question in Mike Pettine’s rotating defense in Cleveland.

Brandon Graham -

Once again, the Browns are looking to improve their pass rush from the edge. The Cleveland defense ranked near the bottom of the league in generating pressure without blitzing, thus the interest in pass rushing types, such as Graham. The knock on Graham is he hasn’t been an every down player, which isn’t a complete necessity in Cleveland rotating defensive front.

Terrance Knighton -

The Browns are in the market for a stout interior defensive lineman and Knighton has excelled the past two seasons in Denver. Knighton has displayed the ability to stuff the run and provide a pressure presence on occasion. While the Browns have interest, Knighton could land in Oakland with former Broncos defensive coordinator Jack DelRio, the new head coach in Oakland.

Charles Clay -

With TE Jordan Cameron’s exit in Cleveland nearly a guarantee, the Browns have thoroughly evaluated the available TE’s in free agency and the draft. Clay has been graded as a player that has the skill-set to perform at a highly efficient rate in the Cleveland offensive scheme.

And there is DE Jerry Hughes - read Rumor Central for the latest on the pass rusher.
