The Cleveland Browns, in a transaction that would have been newsworthy before the days of tiered rookie salaries, signed DB Charles Gaines Louisville this afternoon. Gaines was the team's sixth-round pick out of Louisville, where he played thirty-three games after converting from a wide receiver after his freshman year.
With Gaines safely in the fold, the Browns also made a number of other minor transactions. They released WR Phil Bates, K Garret Hartley, DB Varmah Sonie, and DL Christian Topou.
At the same time, the Browns signed a number of players who impressed them at tryout camp or in other ways: TE Emmanuel Bibbs, WR Paul Browning, DB Landon Feichter, TE Kevin Haplea, WR Darius Jennings, RB Luke Lundy, LB Rodman Noel, and DB Brandon Stephens. Of the eight, Stephens might be familiar to some Browns fans from his stint with the Cleveland Gladiators.
These changes are reflected on current edition of the OBR Browns roster.
