Browns release C Nick McDonald

Center started seven games for the Browns in 2014, filling in for an injured Alex Mack.

The Browns have waived/injured (knee) center Nick McDonald, the team announced yesterday in a brief press release.

McDonald played a non-trivial role in the Browns 2014 season, starting seven games at center following the loss of center Alex Mack for the season. While McDonald is unlikely to be solely to blame, the Browns running game (and subsequently the play-action pass) was significantly less effective after Mack suffered a broken leg. McDonald himself had to wait a week to fill in for Mack as he was recovering from a wrist injury himself.

With Mack potentially exiting the team as a free agent after the season, the Browns drafted OL Cameron Erving in the first round this year. They also added veteran Ryan Seymour. The additions made McDonald expendable, and he was released on Wednesday.
