Quotes to Note: OTA Edition

Some buzz from behind the scenes at OTAs, including tidbits on Alex Mack, Dwayne Bowe, Duke Johnson and more!

Some quotes to note coming out of the Cleveland Browns off-season training activities:

  • “(Alex) Mack looks very good. He is healthy and ready to go. We held him back a bit to ease him in, as well as getting a look at other guys we have in here.”

  • “There is no competition (at the starting QB spot), Josh McCown has come in and done everything we have asked and then some. He (McCown) is doing a very good job in working through the install of the offense and has a firm grasp of what we are looking to accomplish.”

  • “We believe we are in a good place at RB. There is a noticeable difference in (Terrance) West and (Isaiah) Crowell heading into year-two. Glenn Winston is a guy that shouldn’t be overlooked.”

  • “The one dynamic we are seeing thus far is the impact RB Duke Johnson can have on this team. The young man is explosive, he’s lighting quick, he is fast, talk about a guy that can plant his foot and go… that is Duke Johnson. We won’t have any problem finding ways to get him on the field. This is a guy that will have to be accounted for.”

  • “We are seeing things in OTA sessions with WR Dwayne Bowe that hasn’t been on his tape in years. We believed he could get down-field and make an impact based on his skill-set, what we are seeing is Bowe is relishing the opportunity to lead and play.”

  • “Defensively, were believe we have plenty to be excited about — to build upon. Rookie Xavier Cooper has a serious motor, I mean this kid has come in here and exceeded everything we anticipated.”

  • “(Jordan) Poyer has done well in the absence of (Tashaun) Gipson. He showed some things last year, but needed time to grow in the system. The young man has the opportunity to compete.”

  • “I won’t talk about the personal aspects of CB Justin Gilbert, but will say he has come in, been very professional, attentive, physical and his desire is showing on the practice field. We are seeing him doing things on a daily basis that you want to see from a first round draft pick.”
