The NFL released the list of key dates for the 2015-2016 NFL seasons on Wednesday and there’s an important one for Cleveland Browns’ fans to circle—April 28, 2016, or Day 1 of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Draft is scheduled to run through April 30 at a site to be determined, one that may not be New York City given the success of holding the 2015 NFL Draft in Chicago.
Depending on how the Browns’ 2015 season plays out, April 28 could feel like Christmas morning yet again for Cleveland’s fans. The important thing, though, is that the Browns find shiny new toys and not lumps of coal. The Browns’ drafts over the past two years have been shaky, producing a few studs like offensive lineman Joel Bitonio, players of little consequence, like cornerback Leon McFadden and others for whom the jury is still out, such as Johnny Manziel. The other goal for 2016 is for the Browns to no longer pick in the top 10 in Round 1.
More dates to note include September 5, when teams must reduce their rosters to 53 players, September 6, when teams can establish their practice squads and November 3, which is the NFL’s trade deadline. Important 2016 dates include February 22, when teams must name their franchise or transition tag players, February 23 through 29, when the NFL Scouting Combine takes place and March 15, when the league year kicks off, formally starting free agency and trading for the 2016 season.
