Why Manziel was Shut Down

Fred Greetham discusses the Browns decision to shut down QB Johnny Manziel.

Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was shut down for the remainder of the preseason after experiencing a sore elbow leading up to the third preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Mike Pettine termed the injury a “minor setback” and expects Manziel to be ready for the regular season. Manziel was expected to work with the first team after starter Josh McCown against the Bucs.

The Browns signed quarterback Pat Devlin to take some of the reps in practice as the Browns are down to just two healthy quarterbacks in McCown and Thad Lewis. Second-year quarterback Connor Shaw is also sidelined after surgery to repair ligament damage on his right thumb.
