Updated 53-Man Roster Projection

Today is the day for NFL teams to get to the mandated 53-man roster. Here's our updated projection

We offered our projected 53-man roster projection last week prior to the roster cuts from 90 to 75. Now, we will revamp our projection as the Browns must get their roster to 53 by 4 pm Saturday.

The cuts are always somewhat unpredictable as often players are placed on injured reserve with injuries that were more serious than believed to have been during the preseason. This projection is based on the current 75-man roster of the Browns and usually changes, as the Browns will likely add players released from other teams.

On the first projection, we were correct on 51 of 53 players (96 percent), missing on DL Phil Taylor and DL Ishmaa’ily Kitchen. Here is our updated projection:

WR—Dwayne Bowe, Brian Hartline, Andrew Hawkins, Taylor Gabriel, Travis Benjamin, Terrelle Pryor, Marlon Moore (7)

OL—Joe Thomas, Joel Bitonio, Alex Mack, John Greco, Mitchell Schwartz, Cameron Erving, Vinston Painter, Andrew McDonald (8)

TE—Gary Barnidge, Jim Dray, Rob Housler (3)

QB—Josh McCown, Johnny Manziel (2)

RB—Isaiah Crowell, Terrance West, Duke Johnson,Malcolm Johnson (4)

DL—Desmond Bryant, Armonty Bryant, Danny Shelton, Randy Starks, Xavier Cooper, John Hughes, Jamie Meder, Billy Winn (8)

LB—Paul Kruger, Scott Solomon, Karlos Dansby, Christian Kirksey, Craig Robertson, Barkevious Mingo, Tank Carder, Nate Orchard (8)

DB—Joe Haden, Tramon Williams, Donte Whitner, Tashaun Gipson, Justin Gilbert, Pierre Desir, K’Waun Williams, Charles Gaines, Jordan Poyer, Ibraheim Campbell (10)

Specialists—Andy Lee, Charlie Hughlett, Travis Coons (3)

Practice Squad: WR Vince Mayle, LB Hayes Pullard, DB Robert Nelson, WR Darius Jennings, WR Josh Lenz, DB Kendall James, OL Darrian Miller, DL Jacobbi McDaniel, TE E.J. Bibbs and DL Dylan Wynn (10)

If these projections are true, the Browns would be parting ways with several players—besides Taylor and Kitchen— that could be termed ‘surprises’ in Johnson Bademosi, Thad Lewis, Vince Mayle, Robert Nelson and Shaun Draughn.
