The OBR NFL Power Rankings: Week 5

Week 5 is in the books and we have a clear demarcation of good teams versus bad, at it starts earlier than you might expect. The OBR staff is back with our NFL Power Rankings. Take a look at who we have as the unanimous #1 and 2 and how high our Cleveland Browns rose after beating their rivals on the road.

Rank Team Last Rank W or L Record Jared Barry Lane Andrea Rick Fred Hayden
1 New England 1 W 4 - 0 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
2 Green Bay 2 W 5 - 0 2 2 2 2 2 2 2
Note: We have consensus on top with everyone ranking the Patriots #1 and the Packers #2. Clearly the current front runner for a Super Bowl matchup.
3 Cincinnati 4 W 5 - 0 3 3 5 3 3 5 4
4 Denver 3 W 5 - 0 5 5 4 5 4 3 3
5 Arizona 5 W 4 - 1 6 4 3 4 6 4 7
6 Atlanta 6 W 5 - 0 4 6 6 6 5 6 5
Note: There seems to be 6 teams that are overal believed in at this point. The next 6 or 7 can join in the part but these top 6 are the elite at this point.
7 Carolina 7 BYE 4 - 0 7 7 7 7 7 7 6
8 Jets 9 BYE 3 - 1 8 8 10 9 8 11 8
9 Buffalo 12 W 3 - 2 9 10 9 11 9 9 10

14 Giants 19 W 3 - 2 13 14 15 13 14 16 13
Note: Only 2 teams above have losing records and none below 14 have winning records. The Seahawks are still given a bit of a pass while having Brandon Weeden, and now Matt Cassell, leading the Cowboys was sure to hurt their record. Only 12 of the 32 teams in the NFL right now have winning records.
15 San Diego 14 L 2 - 3 16 16 14 16 15 15 15
16 Minnesota 15 BYE 2 - 2 15 15 18 14 17 18 16
17 St. Louis 16 L 2 - 3 20 18 13 17 16 13 17

19 Oakland 20 L 2 - 3 17 22 22 18 19 23 18
20 Cleveland 24 W 2 - 3 19 20 19 24 22 18 22
Note: The Browns will the second biggest rise this week, both Chicago and Tampa Bay rose 5 spots in the mess that is the bottom of the league right now. Overall our group of experts slotted the team right in the middle of all the 2 win teams in the league. Seems about right at this point with many teams disappointing seasons so far. Fred has the Browns the highest at #18 while Andrea still needs to see more at #24.
21 Washington 22 L 2 - 3 25 23 20 21 21 19 20
22 Kansas City 17 L 1 - 4 21 19 21 20 20 22 27
23 Houston 23 L 2 - 3 23 24 24 22 23 20 21
24 Baltimore 18 L 1 - 4 22 21 23 23 24 21 26
25 Tennessee 25 L 2 - 3 24 25 26 25 27 25 23
26 Chicago 31 W 2 - 3 26 27 27 26 25 24 24
27 Tampa Bay 32 W 2 - 3 27 26 28 27 26 29 25
28 San Francisco 28 L 1 - 4 29 28 29 28 29 27 28
29 Miami 29 BYE 1 - 3 28 29 30 30 30 28 31
30 Jacksonville 30 L 1 - 4 30 30 31 29 30 30
31 New Orleans 27 L 1 - 4 31 31 32 31 28 31 29
32 Detroit 26 L 0 - 5 32 32 25 32 32 32 32
Note: The fight for worst in the league, and the #1 overall pick is interesting at this point. The no win Lions sit at the head of the kiddie table but 6 teams with only one win are gathered there as well. Many have questions short and long term at the QB spot. Others, like the Chiefs and Ravens, expected to be in the hunt for the Playoffs. 5 weeks in and the NFL season has been very interesting.
