BEREA—The Browns waived running back Robert Turbin and elevated offensive lineman Darrian miller to the active roster. Miller (6-5, 307) was an undrafted rookie free agent from Kentucky. He spent the first nine weeks of the season on the practice squad.
Turbin appeared in three games and rushed for 60 yards on 18 carries after joining the Browns via waivers on Sept. 10. He also caught two passes for eight yards and fumbled twice against Arizona, losing one. He was active, but did not play agaisnt the Bengals last week. The Browns claimed Turbin after he was waived-injured by the Seahawks and was on the active roster for five weeks while injured. In all five games, Turbin was inactive on gameday.
A possible move is adding running back Glenn Winston, who is also eligible to come off of the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list after a knee injury that required arthroscopic surgery during the preseason. He has been on the PUP list since Sept. 1 and has been practicing the past two weeks.
The Browns released wide receiver Terrelle Pryor to make room for Turbin. Pryor has not been added to any NFL roster since the move, although he’s had tryouts.
The Browns added offensive Garth Gerhart to the practice squad to take Miller’s place. They also released linebacker Jayson DiManche and defensive back De’Ante Saunders from the active roster on Tuesday.
Rookie defensive back Charles Gaines is eligible to come off the injured-reserve designated to return from a hamstring injury suffered in the preseason.
The Browns received some good news as wide receivers Brian Hartline and Andrew Hawkins returned to practice Tuesday from the concussion protocol. Defensive back Jordan Poyer was practicing with a red non-contact jerseylQuarterback Josh McCown (ribs, shoulder), Joe Haden (concussion) and Donte Whitner (concussion) were not practicing on Tuesday. Joel Bitonio (ankle) and Armonty Bryant (unknown) were also not practicing.
