The OBR Weekly NFL Power Rankings

The OBR staff is back with their Weekly NFL Power Rankings against a dismal Cleveland Browns season and a pretty lackluster league so far 9 weeks into the season. See what you think.

Rank Team Last Rank W or L Record Jared Barry Lane Andrea Rick Fred Hayden
New England 1 W 8 - 0 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
Cincinnati 2 W 8 - 0 2 2 3 2 2 4 2
Carolina 4 W 8 - 0 3 3 2 3 3 2 3
Denver 3 L 7 - 1 5 4 4 4 4 3 4
Green Bay 5 L 6 - 2 6 6 6 5 5 5 5
Arizona 6 BYE 6 - 2 4 5 5 6 6 6 6
Note: We have a divide between the top 6 teams and the next grouping. Each of these teams have impressed at different times in the season. The Packers have lost two straight but both were to two of the undefeated teams. The Cardinals have a powerful offense and tough defense to stay among this group.
Minnesota 8 W 6 - 2 7 7 8 7 7 8 7
Jets 9 W 5 - 3 8 9 9 8 9 9 8
Atlanta 7 L 6 - 3 9 8 11 9 8 7 9
Note: A much smaller group here as the Top 9 are the teams that have given glimpses that they could compete for a Super Bowl. The Vikings have been on a slow climb while Atlanta, with Kyle Shanahan, seem to have hit their peak early and falling back to earth.
Giants 13 W 5 - 4 10 10 7 13 11 13 10
Pittsburgh 11 W 5 - 4 11 11 13 11 10 12 11
Seattle 12 BYE 4 - 4 14 12 10 12 12 10 13
Oakland 10 L 4 - 4 13 13 14 10 13 11 12
Buffalo 14 W 4 - 4 12 14 12 14 15 14 14
Indianapolis 17 W 4 - 5 15 16 16 15 14 15 18
Philadelphia 16 W 4 - 4 16 15 15 16 17 16 16
Note: A big group of "we don't know what they are" is here. each of these teams has given reason for excitement and a reason to jump ship. With the poor play at the botton of the league, their records could continue to improve without much hope of a long playoff run. The Giants were big risers, 3 spots, while the Raiders fell as many spots.
St. Louis 15 L 4 - 4 17 17 17 18 16 17 15
New Orleans 18 L 4 - 5 19 18 18 17 18 18 17
Miami 21 L 3 - 5 22 20 25 19 19 21 19
Chicago 25 W 3 - 5 18 19 21 22 24 25 18
Kansas City 23 BYE 3 - 5 24 21 19 21 21 22 21
Dallas 19 L 2 - 6 20 24 23 20 23 19 24
Washington 22 L 3 - 5 23 22 20 23 22 23 20
San Diego 20 L 2 - 7 21 27 24 25 20 20 25
Note: Some of these teams should or have packed it in while others still believe they have hope. With the way this season has gone, anything is possible but we would be shocked if more than 1 of these teams made the playoffs. Chicago is the big rister this week, up 5 spots.
Houston 24 BYE 3 - 5 25 23 22 24 25 24 22
Tampa Bay 26 L 3 - 5 26 25 27 26 26 28 23
San Francisco 31 W 3 - 6 27 26 29 31 27 26 31
Baltimore 29 BYE 2 - 6 31 29 26 28 29 31 27
Tennessee 30 W 2 - 6 28 31 30 27 28 29 28
Cleveland 27 L 2 - 7 29 30 28 30 30 27 30
Jacksonville 28 L 2 - 6 30 28 31 29 31 30 26
Detroit 32 BYE 1 - 7 32 32 32 32 32 32 32
Note: These teams, barring something strange, are planning for the draft and the Browns and Jaguars fall 3 spots down to where they belong. Nothing about these teams screams an ability to make a run but NFL does stand for "Not For Long" so anything is possible. Right Browns fans? No?! Crud!
