The Browns, after interviewing seven candidates, seem to have found the one they want to lead the team into a new era.
That candidate, reportedly, is Cincinnati Bengals Offensive Coordinator, Hue Jackson, who interviewed with the Browns on Sunday night.
While Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and NFL.com reported that the Browns were ready to make a push for Jackson, Jim Donovan of WKYC Channel 3 in Cleveland reported that the Cincinnati coordinator has become Cleveland's top choice.
Donovan also indicated that the Browns are looking to offer Jackson a say in personnel decisions, including the ability to pick his starting quarterback.
The timing makes sense. The Browns have analyzed the guys they interviewed and made a decision on which one they wanted most from that group. A push to sign Jackson doesn't mean he will sign, he also has interviewed with the 49ers but they are reportedly bringing in Tom Coughlin for an interview.
It is very possible that the agents for Jackson are putting this feeler out there to put pressure on the Niners, it happens all the time (seemingly to the Browns especially).
Jackson seems like a slam dunk hire for a lot of Browns fans. He has experience as a head coach, is an offensive mind and has been successful at multiple spots. His lone head job was cut short by the unrest in Oakland.
The far more interesting thing will be if Jackson takes the job. He has options, the Browns have had a ton of unrest and he would be competing against his boss Marvin Lewis twice a year.
His ties to the Bay Area are far clearer but it doesn't seem like the Niners are ready to make their choice.
Can the Browns win on their first choice?
Is this all a ruse to get the Niners to make an offer?
Is Jackson the right head coach anyways?
Will he keep on John DeFilippo on as OC?
Next few hours could get very interesting!
