The Fast Lane: Cleveland Browns Free Agency Notes

Free agency negotiations start at Noon on Monday, and Lane Adkins has the latest of what he's hearing on free agency...

What we are hearing regarding the Browns with free agency on the horizon:

  • The Browns will not be players for QB Brock Osweiler.

  • HC Hue Jackson would like a physical RB on the roster, Chris Ivory (NYJ) has been mentioned.

  • The Browns and Jackson have spent more than a passing amount of time on potential Cincinnati Bengals FAs, players Jackson is familiar with. The Browns have taken a serious look at WR Mo Sanu, WR Marvin Jones, S Reggie Nelson and S George Iloka, RT Andre Smith and ILB Vincent Rey. The belief of the Browns organization is the team could display immediate growth with the addition of talent Jackson is familiar with.

  • An entity close to CB Adam Jones tells theOBR that PacMan would be very receptive in joining Jackson in Cleveland, along with some of his former Cincinnati teammates.

  • The Browns have done an extensive scouting evaluation on University of Alabama center Ryan Kelly.

  • If the Browns are unable to retain center Alex Mack in FA, Stefen Wisniewski (JAX) and Ben Jones (HOU) have been identified as possible candidates for the Browns at center, as well as John Greco from within the roster.

  • If the Browns are unable to retain right tackle Mitchell Schwartz in FA, Andre Smith (CIN), Joe Barksdale (SD) as well as Austin Pastor (RFA) from the present roster.

  • As of Saturday evening, the Browns had discussed and fully understand RT Mitchell Schwartz is headed to the open-market, unless the Browns offer a ‘deal they can’t refuse’ – which we are hearing is 5 yr / 45 million / 20 million guaranteed

  • The Browns have continued dialog with the agent for C Alex Mack. The Browns have been working the numbers and have yet to get to the ‘acceptable’ number Mack’s camp seeks.

  • Indications are the Browns and LB Craig Robertson will come to an agreement.

  • As has been the story, the Browns have yet to warm up to offering S Tashaun Gipson and offer comparable to McCourty in NE – 5 years / 47.5 million / 28 million guaranteed.

  • When inquiring on WR Travis Benjamin, the open discussions we had on the player has suddenly gotten to the point of “We have no agreement with the Browns at this time”
