NFL Draft: Happy Jared, Sad Jared

Just posted my 7 Round Cleveland Browns Mock Draft on Twitter and you've seen enough 1st Round Mocks. Instead I give you alternating things that will make for a Happy Jared and a Sad Jared for the NFL Draft.

Taking a big picture look at the NFL Draft, there are quite a few things that will make me happy and a few less things that will make me sad. No specific order, though starting from the top of Draft down will begin the process, here is how I will feel if given things happen:

  • Happy Jared (HJ for short the rest of the piece) - The Browns trade down from 8 into the teens while picking up another 2nd Round pick.
  • Sad Jared (SJ) - The Browns drop into the mid to late 20's, especially #22, in a trade down.
  • HJ - In order, Deforest Buckner, Jalen Ramsey, Laremy Tunsil, Myles Jack, Ezekiel Elliott or Joey Bosa is picked at #8.
  • SJ - Ronnie Stanley or Paxton Lynch are picked with the Browns 1st pick in the Draft (8 or any small trade down).
  • HJ - Browns take a chance on talented but risky players at appropriate spots: Myles Jack at 8 or lower and Jaylon Smith somewhere middle of the 3rd Round or lower.
  • SJ - Browns don't spend early picks on "impact" positions of Edge, WR, OLB, RB or FS.
  • HJ - Browns draft a QB after the 3rd Round.
  • SJ - Browns draft Christian Hackenburg, Connor Cook or Dak Prescott high in the 2nd.
  • HJ - Browns draft the best kicker in the draft, Roberto Aguayo anytime after the top pick in the 4th Round.
  • SJ - Browns trade out of more than 1 pick this year for a next year pick.
  • HJ - Browns picks frustrate many members of the local media.
  • SJ - When Browns fans say a player is a reach based basically on media Mock Drafts.
  • HJ - Browns fans who buy in on the long-term plans for the team.
  • SJ - Anytime the Ravens, Steelers or Bengals draft a player I really like.
  • HJ - Browns draft 2 wide receivers in the first 4 Rounds.
  • SJ - Only 1 WR drafted and it is middle of the 3rd or later.
  • HJ - When a Browns pick isn't quickly followed by anyone talking about "analytics."
  • SJ - How little all of us know what "analytics" really means for the NFL but how often we use it.
  • HJ - When I can start imagining how each Browns pick could help the team next year.
  • SJ - Remember that I will have to wait another 362 days for the next NFL Draft from when this one ends.

Just a reminder that I will be hosting ESPN Radio Dayton from 5 to 6 this afternoon. You can download their app: Search ESPN 1410 WING AM in your app store or go to www.wingam.com to listen live online.

What will make you Happy? What will make you Sad from the NFL Draft?
