BEREA—Let’s make a deal!
That could soon be Sashi Brown’s catch phrase as the Browns Executive Vice President of Football Operations executed two trades in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft before making his first selection in charge of the draft.
Last week, the Browns traded the No. 2 overall selection and a conditional fourth-round pick in 2017 to the Eagles for the No. 8 pick in this year’s draft, a third-round pick (No. 77), fourth-round pick (No. 100) along with the Eagles’ 2017 first-round pick and a 2018 second-round pick.
When the Browns were on the clock at No. 8, they traded down to No. 15 with the Titans. In addition, the Browns sent their sixth-round pick (176th overall) to Tennessee for the 15th pick and a third-round pick (76th overall) in 2016 and a second-round pick in 2017.
All totaled, the Browns added two extra third-round picks this year (No. 76 and 77), a fourth-round pick this year (No. 100) for trading down. In addition, they have an extra first-round pick in 2017, an extra second-round pick in 2017 and an extra second-round pick in 2018.
Right now, the Browns have 11 more draft choices starting Friday. They have one second (32nd), three thirds (65, 76, 77), three fourths (99, 100, 138), three fifths (141, 172, 173) and one seventh (223).Brown said he didn’t anticipate the Browns trading back up into the first round. If that is the case, the Browns will have the first pick of the second-round at 32nd overall. Brown said he’s already received offers for the pick, so the Browns might start Friday night trading down again.
