Before the season, John Hughes was seen as a sure starter and an important piece of Ray Horton's 3-4 defense.
A long absence during Training Camp, do to personal reasons, created some uncertainty around him.
Signing Stephen Paea to add to the defensive line also added to the uncertainty.
Then came Week 1 and Hughes was listed as a starter, many thought his role was solidified.
22 snaps in Week 1 told a different story.
Based on that usage, we shouldn't be surprised that Hughes is inactive. What it means going forward is a bigger question.
For Hughes and the Browns, the question is whether this is a week to week situation where they wanted to get more pass rushing on the field or is this a sign of things to come?
Waiver wire pickup Tyrone Holmes will be active today. Holmes, a lean pass rushing specialist, could help put a hurt on Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco. Holmes isn't sturdy in the run game but can help keep contain, which has been a problem for the team in the past.
Other inactives for the Browns are CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun, CB Marcus Burley, LB Scooby Wright, OL Shon Coleman, WR Jordan Payton and DL Gabe Wright.
For the Ravens, LB Elvis Dumervil is the name inactive and is joined by CB Jerraud Powers, RB Kenneth Dixon, CB Will Davis, RB Javorius Allen, OL John Urschel and DL Willie Henry.
