The front office at 76 Lou Groza Blvd, in Berea could not pass up taking the recipient of the Lou Groza Award for being the nation's top kicker.
Zane Gonzalez, from Arizona State, made 23-of-25 field goal attempts, which tied him for third overall in the country. Gonzalez was 7-of-9 (77.8 pct.) from field goals of 50 yards or longer last season.
Gonzalez is the FBS career record holder for most field goals in their career with 96. He finished his career with 494 points for most points in the FBS by a kicker. He finished his career with six records for kicking, most in FBS history.
Gonzalez was taken with the Browns first pick in the seventh-round, 224th overall. He was the first kicker drafted by the Browns since they selected Jeff Jaeger in the third-round of the 1987 NFL Draft.
Cody Parkey was the Browns kicker last season after replacing Patrick Murray was injured early in the season. Parkey was 20-of-25 on field goal attempts and 20-of-21 on extra points to lead the team with 80 points.
