Methodology: BerniesInsiders.com has been doing Gameballs and Goats since the site's previous incarnation as BTNG in 1999. Each year, we take a week during the summer, and head to a secluded cabin in the woods, away from all modern media and other distractions, and we brainstorm ways to make our year-end MVP calculations more obscure and incomprehensible. After four days of eating bark, berries, and various fungi, we came up with this year's approach.
This year, we're going to take into account total votes. Here's how it will work. Each week, we will take the top seven gameball and goat vote getters. We will add the votes they got that week to their total for the season. If you finish in eighth place... nada, just the seven top goats and the seven top gameballers. Players finishing in the top seven gameballs get their votes added, players in the top seven goats get votes subtracted from their total.
Sound simple? Ha! Just wait until the numbers get really, really big.
Total To Date:
Here are the results through Week 6 of the voting. Tim Couch and Courtney Brown are on top of the gameball voting, and Andra Davis has been accumulating enough points each week (while never finishing first) to wind up in third place. One the opposite end of the spectrum, Bruce Arians play-calling has been frequently questioned during the early-going, while Butch Davis and the offensive line accumulated a lot of goat horns during the first four weeks of the season.
