Sean Jones Scouting Report

The Browns again sacrificed a number of lower picks to move up and get a player that they really wanted. Was he worth it? Here's Tony Pauline's take on the Browns new safety.

Name Sean Jones
School Georgia
Year 4Jr
Ht 6-1.5

Pos S

Bio: First team All-SEC defender as a junior after posting 121/5/5. Sophomore included 91/2/3. Outstanding special teams player previously awarded honors in that area.

Positives: King-sized safety that defends the run as well as the pass. Adequate skills in man-to-man coverage displaying fluid hips, speed and the ability to read the passers eyes. Times defenses well, makes plays sideline-to-sideline and constantly around the action. Keeps the action in front of him and squares into tackles wrapping up.

Negatives: Lacks the great burst of closing speed. Marginal starting experience.

Analysis: A forceful defender, Jones will be one of the first safeties off the board in April's draft. Combines the physical presence to stop the run with the cover skills needed to defend the pass and should quickly move into the starting lineup at the next level.
