UPDATE 5:15PM: The Browns have confirmed to BerniesInsiders.com that Gordon, McCown, and Echemandu have signed contracts prior to the start of training camp. The Browns tell us that there is "nothing to report" on progress with Sean Jones, which ties to earlier stories indicating that progress made with the Browns second-round pick was not significant.
According to a report released this afternoon by local news station WKYC, the Browns have signed draft picks Sean Jones, Amon Gordon, Luke McCown, and Adimchinobe Echemandu to contracts in advance of training camp.
The story, if true, means that first-round selection Kellen Winslow Jr is the only draft pick remaining unsigned.
The news comes as a surprise considering that, as recently as this morning, Pat Dye, the agent for second-round selection Sean Jones, told the Plain Dealer that very little progress had been made in contract talks. Bernie's Insiders reported last week that the team was close with Luke McCown, a report seconded by Tony Grossi yesterday, but little information had been made available by the other three.
WKYC-3 has a business relationship with the Browns, since they carry the Browns pre-season games as well as a show featuring Butch Davis. The channel's lead sports anchor, Jim Donovan, also is the team's radio voice. As a result, we suggest that the report should be taken seriously, but we advise that fans wait for official confirmation from the Browns themselves.
