Akins a happy Brown

Chris Akins enjoys being in Cleveland after tough times in Green Bay.

Chris Akins says he's learned a lesson from his final days in Green Bay.

Akins was waived by the Packers and signed by the Browns on Tuesday. He created controversy in Green Bay when he was involved in a verbal exchange with Packers coach Mike Sherman during a Thanksgiving Day game against Detroit.

"I'm very happy to be here. I'm excited to be back playing football," Akins said. "I'm going to try to stay more humble than I was in Green Bay when certain situations came up. I'm ready to get a fresh start and ready to start winning some games."

Akins confronted Sherman after he was pulled from the lineup. He became a source of controversy in Green Bay, all but sealing the end of his time with the Packers.

"It wasn't something that couldn't be worked out, but it was a situation that the inevitable was going to happen," Akins said. "I happy to be here in Cleveland now, and I'm just ready to get started."

Akins, in his third NFL season, has played safety and cornerback. He's not expected to play in the secondary at this time, but he should see time on special teams in place of Scott Frost, who was waived on Tuesday.

"I'm going to try to learn as much as I can on defense this week," Akins said. "Hopefully, if I can go next week on defense if they can use me, but special teams are somewhere where they can use me right now."

NOT SAYING MUCH: Coach Butch Davis isn't detailing what changes he plans to make on offense this week. One thing clear is that Davis is committed to the changes.

"Once you get too much invested in it, there's no going back," Davis said. "Clearly in the first 15 minutes of practice, if it looked like a failure we wouldn't stay with it. Once you go four or five days into it, it's pretty much the way it's going to be."

INJURY REPORT: Doubtful for the Browns are defensive end Courtney Brown (ankle) and linebacker Tarek Saleh (hip). Questionable are cornerback Daylon McCutcheon (ankle); receiver Quincy Morgan (shoulder) and H-Back Aaron Shea. Probables are safety Percy Ellsworth (quadriceps) and linebacker Jamir Miller (quadriceps). Out for the Jaguars are linebacker Kevin Hardy (knee). Doubtful is cornerback Fernando Bryant (foot). Questionable are linebacker Danny Clark (ankle); safety Marlon McCree (ankle) and running back Fred Taylor (groin). Probables are cornerback Aaron Beasley (shoulder) and quarterback Mark Brunell (quadriceps).

ROSTER MOVE: Receiver Bobby Brown has been added to the practice squad. Brown spent most of last season on the Browns' practice squad. He was waived on Aug. 29 of this year.
